This is Qilin (麒麟) ) / Chi Lin /Kilin/Japanese= Kirin ~ Also known as the "Chinese Unicorn" This mystical, magical beast is known by many names in many cultures. "Qilin" is the combination of two characters "qi" Male and "lin" female. Qilin is sometimes considered both male and female, and/ or non-binary ~ however can become either Male or Female. If there are a Pair of Qilin, one is always male and the other is always female.
Because I was so drawn to this Jade Beast, I did some research. I found that the Qilin is a herbivore, has a quiet nature, and has the ability to walk on grass without disturbing it. In fact, in some cultures the Qilin is known to avoid walking on grass for fear of harming a single blade, and will instead choose to walk up on the clouds or water.
Qilin are known to look into the soul of another being (human included) and will know if they are good/ or evil, guilty or innocent. Qilin are known to protect and guard the innocent and punish the wicked. Sometimes the wicked are eaten and turned to gold in the stomach of the Qilin. Qilin are said to appear to those that are pure of heart before the birth of a child, or the death of a sage or magician.
Normally Qilin are purchased in Pairs; If only one Qilin is present when placed in the home, a Qilin is customarily faced to the North-East to support Children's Education, and the South-West for Luck in marrriage and children.
For general good luck and protection, Qilin would be faced to the South.
